Hi Brandi,
Have you ever taken a peek at the back of a product label?
I don’t know about you… but to me, it can be intimidating... often a bunch of long, hard-to-pronounce words!
So, today I thought we’d take the mystery out of a few common ingredients…
To help you understand why they’re there & what they can do for your hair!
Let’s start with one found in many self-care items:
Panthenol
Also known as provitamin B-5, this naturally-occurring ingredient can be found in various food sources.
It’s often selected for hair & skin care for its softening & soothing properties.
Panthenol is also great at helping your hair retain moisture, which leads to…
Softer, shinier hair that’s less prone to breakage!
Speaking of hydrated hair, here’s another ingredient you need to know:
Glycerin
A thick, viscous ingredient commonly sourced from rich plant oils (think coconut oil or shea butter)...
It’s known as a humectant, or something that can pull moisture out of the air...
And into your skin & hair!
Similar to panthenol, it helps create an invisible barrier that locks in essential moisture.
Add in its antimicrobial properties…
And it's no wonder glycerin helps control a variety of scalp concerns…
Including dryness, flakes, & overproduction of oil!
While I wouldn’t be surprised if you already own multiple items that contain panthenol & glycerin…
You may be surprised to learn that many products also contain food-centric ingredients. Like the buzzy beverage… coffee!
Not just for sipping, this caffeine-rich bean boosts blood circulation, which studies have shown to stimulate hair growth.
Coffee contains flavonoids (an antioxidant) that nourish strands & improve the overall quality of your hair.
It’s even a home remedy for naturally enriching dark hair hues!
Then there’s … spicy, warming cinnamon!
Harvested from the bark of several tree species, it’s rich in vitamins, nutrients, & polyphenols (an antioxidant found in grapes!).
It also contains anti-inflammatory, antifungal, & exfoliating properties…
Making it an excellent choice for scalp irritations!
Keep an eye out for this powerhouse ingredient, as it’s a great addition to your healthy hair routine.
And finally… fresh, herbal Rosemary!
This popular herb is chock full of skin-soothing compounds…
Great for dryness, dandruff, & itchy scalp!
It’s also known for supporting healthy hair growth…
And in some cases, it can even prevent gray hair.
This is just a taste of our ingredient spotlights… but definitely not the last time!
So, the next time you apply any hair or skin product, I encourage you to read the label…
Knowing what’s in your products will help you choose the right ones for your hair.
So, if you’d like to introduce any of these ingredients into your hair routine…
